Consumption of oil in US

heating oil
Presently, United States consumes more than25% of the world’s consumption. As a result it produces ¼ of the carbon emissions in the world. Due to the ever increasing population and demand it is expected that resources may exhaust with in 40 years. The reasons for the resource crisis are because of the
1. Increase in population
2. Different uses for a resource
3. undesirable demand
4. heavy consumption
In US there are very less significant chances for discovering onshore oil fields. Though there are chances to explore resources offshore, it is more expensive to drill them in deep water. The oil reserves are expected to be present at places like Alaska, California, Louisiana and Gulf of Mexico. Due to the increasing demand in US, the domestic oil production has been getting declined. So, US have been importing Oil from Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela…It is expected that oil is found at a depth of 16,000 feet. Below that due to the temperature of the earth, gas exists. United States has large areas of oil shale deposits. The problem is that there are no effective methods for extracting crude oil from shale.
Oil sands are present in Canada. The oil formed from oil sands cannot be recovered by the standard methods of dealing. It requires strip mining. A long process involves for it. First of all the sand is dug up. Oil should be removed by water floatation process and the waste should be safely disposed. The mining process requires lot of energy. So, the process becomes more expensive. If the natural resources continue to get exploited there will be nothing remained to exploit in future.
